• Resumen

  La historiografía ha planteado argumentos contrastantes sobre el liberalismo argentino de las décadas de 1920 a 1940. Se ha postulado su crisis, así como su supervivencia. Aquí se aborda este problema a partir del análisis de las obras de Mariano de Vedia y Mitre, historiador, jurista y profesor en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. El tema que estructuró su reflexión fue la relación entre soberanía y libertad, entendiendo que la primera era condición de posibilidad de la segunda. A partir de este razonamiento, elaboró miradas singulares sobre la historia del pensamiento político (campo del que fue pionero en la Argentina) y la historia nacional, reivindicó el republicanismo y criticó versiones del liberalismo, tomando distancia, sin embargo, de formulaciones antiliberales. Es así un testimonio revelador de la reconfiguración ocurrida en las ideas políticas argentinas y especialmente en la tradición liberal, en los años de la “tormenta del mundo”.

• Abstract

  Historiography has posed contrasting arguments about Argentine liberalism from the 1920s to the 1940s. Its crisis has been postulated, as well as its survival. This problem is adressed here from the analysis of the Mariano de Vedia y Mitre’s works, who was historian, jurist and professor at the University of Buenos Aires. His reflection was structured by the relationship between sovereignty and freedom, understanding that the former was a possibility condition for the latter. Based on this reasoning, he developed singular views on the history of political thought (field in which he was a pioneer in Argentina) and national history, claimed republicanism and criticized versions of liberalism, moving away, however, from anti-liberal formulations. For these reasons, it is a telling testimony of the reconfiguration that took place in Argentine political ideas, and especially in the liberal tradition, in the "storm of the world" years.
